Winfield L. Cooper, III
President and founder of Cooper Commercial Group, Ltd. Win has accrued over twenty years of commercial real estate experience with a strong banking and financial analysis focus. He graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 1984 with a Master of Business Administration degree. He is a Member of Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM); Real Estate Alumni of Michigan (RAM); National Association of Realtors. Win is the 2008 president for CBOR, the Commercial Board of REALTORS.
Stuart J. Kingma
Stuart J. Kingma, SIOR joined The Wisinski Group in 1994 and offers services that include the sales and leasing of commercial and industrial real estate. Mr. Kingma has over 18 years of experience in sales and marketing which includes 14 years experience dealing exclusively with commercial and industrial properties. This focus and experience allows Mr. Kingma to provide his clients with the most up to date information regarding changing market conditions and property availability that affect their real estate investments and decisions.
June Summers Haas

June Summers Haas is a partner with Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP in Lansing, Michigan where she specializes in advising clients on a nationwide basis on multistate tax strategies, resolving tax disputes and litigating state tax cases. She is a nationally recognized expert on nexus issues and has been in the forefront of litigation on retroactive application of nexus standards, establishing Michigan’s casual transaction, and distinguishing between sales of services and sales of tangible property. In addition, Ms. Haas spearheaded efforts to enact procedural reform for Michigan tax administration and was a consultant to the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and the Legislature in drafting the new Michigan Business Tax.
Donald E
. Rysztak
Donald E. Rysztak is a Commercial Sales and Closing Officer for the Detroit NTS office located in Bloomfield Hills, MI. He attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. He has worked in the title industry for over 30 years, and has extensive closing, sales, operations and management experience in both Commercial and Residential title.
Don joined Fidelity National in March of 2005.
John Davis
John joined CB Richard Ellis (by way of Trammell Crow Company) in 2004, concentrating his efforts primarily on Corporate Advisory Services. He specialized in financial/banking tenant representation. His clients have included Comerica Bank, American Express, Ameriprise, JD Power and Associates (McGraw-Hill), DTE Energy, Harte-Hanks, Capgemini, Eli Lilly and a host of others.
Currently, John is the Sales and Leasing Manager for Ford Motor Land Development Corporation (Ford Land), a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. The Ford Land portfolio consists of 5.2 million square feet of office and R&D space in Dearborn and Allen Park.
Gregg A Nathanson, Esq
Gregg A. Nathanson is an attorney specializing in Real Estate, Environmental, Corporate, Finance and Business Law with Couzens Lansky in in Oakland and Wayne Counties..
Gregg is the editor of Michigan Residential Real Estate Transactions (2000), Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). David Miller, SIOR
David has been specializing in corporate services and multi-market assistance since 1988. David has completed acquisition and disposition assignments in Australia, China, Europe, Canada, Mexico and throughout the U.S. For 20 years, he has specialized in office/flex space in Oakland County, representing both local and institutional landlords, as well as owners and corporations with acquisition, disposition and consulting services, completing over $1 Billion in transactions and over 1,000 transactions.
Tim Hatlestad, CCIM
Tim Hatlestad is President and Chief Executive Officer of RE/MAX Commercial Investment, a 45+ agent commercial investment real estate firm with offices in Scottsdale and Phoenix (Arizona), and Owner of RE/MAX Achievers, a 500+ member residential real estate firm with offices in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The company completed over $2.8 Billion and almost 10,000 transaction sides in calendar year 2005. Tim is also the 2008 President of the CCIM Institute, and was the 2005 President of the Arizona Association of REALTORS®.
Tim and his wife Keri of 21 years are parents to their 16-year-old son Griffin and 13-year-old daughter Morgan, and have resided in Scottsdale, Arizona for approximately 25 years. Tim is also the Keynote Speaker at Synergy 2008.
Lee R. Utke, MCR
During his career, Lee Utke has obtained extensive experience in corporate real estate, asset management and public/private real estate development. His professional credentials include experience in asset management, project management and financing, with direct experience in developing retail projects, warehouses, office buildings, and industrial/office parks.
Currently, Lee Utke is the Director, Global Corporate Real Estate for Whirlpool Corporation headquartered in Benton Harbor, Michigan. As the Director for Whirlpool’s global real estate organization, Lee Utke is responsible for developing an enterprise delivery organization that integrates all aspects of real estate, construction and facility management activities with Whirlpool’s operational and financial strategies. Whirlpool’s portfolio includes over 670 properties (owned and leased) consisting of 75 million square feet with a market value exceeding $3.5 billion. In addition to his department’s responsibilities, he is also a core team member on the Corporation’s M&A Team, and VP of Harbor Shores LLC, a corporation solely established to develop a 500 acre brown field project that will include a golf course, marinas, retail, hotels, and a variety of residential opportunities.
James C. Becker, International Director
Mr. Becker is Market Director and Team Leader for the Detroit Cleveland and Minneapolis (DCM) markets for Jones Lang LaSalle. In the fall of 1999, Mr. Becker transferred to Detroit to open the Jones Lang LaSalle corporate office. He is responsible for planning and implementation of real estate services for his clients on a national and global basis. His DCM Team is responsible for working with Strategic Alliance clients such as General Motors, Delphi, National City, United Health Group, Visteon, and others.
Mr. Becker has over 23 years of national transaction experience. Since opening the Detroit office, Mr. Becker and his team have been responsible for completing over 6.5 million square feet of transactions. He recently served as Co-Chair of the Road to Renaissance Aerotropolis Committee, serves as a volunteer advisor to the Alfred E. Taubman School of Architecture at the University of Michigan on its curriculum and is also a member of the Downtown Detroit Inc. Association.
Debra Homic-Hoge
Debra Homic Hoge is currently the Director of North American Operations for GM Worldwide Real Estate and is responsible for the acquisition, disposition, and redevelopment of corporate real estate throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Prior to her current position, Debra was on an international assignment in Russelsheim, Germany where she was responsible for the entire GM real estate portfolio across the European Region consisting of approximately 95 million square feet in over 21 countries.
In past positions, Debra was responsible for a retail portfolio consisting of over 400 locations with a book value of approximately $800 million. She was the President of Argonaut Holdings, Inc. and on the Board of Directors for GM-DI, both wholly-owned subsidiary of GM. Debra received her Bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Detroit-Mercy. Debra maintains a State of Michigan Brokers License, and has also received a Master of Corporate Real Estate (MCR) designation from CoreNet, a global real estate consortium where she now serves on the State Board in Michigan.
Mike Collins
For the past eight years Mike was the director of the Global Real Estate and Facilities departments of Visteon Corporation with responsibilities for over 200 facilities in 26 countries. Prior to Visteon Mike was with Ford Motor Land where he was responsible for the global real estate department and the disposition of surplus properties.
Mike was the president of Stroh River Properties, the Stroh family real estate development company, prior to joining Ford Land. Before joining Stroh, Mike worked for the General Motors Real Estate organization for 24 years in both the engineering and Real Estate departments involved in global site selections, project management and industrial real estate programs. Mike’s real estate assignments have led to his having lived in Mexico, Japan, China, and Korea.

In Thomas Friedman’s best selling book, The World is Flat, he describes how globalization has leveled the competitive playing field between industrial and emerging market countries. The transformation in the world economy has had a direct impact on facility locations as part of the strategic planning for U.S. corporations. Specifically: how Michigan based companies secure real estate in the global marketplace, the role a Michigan based service provider can play in site & facility selection, how deals are structured between the Michigan based company and international property owner, lease verses owning in an international transaction, economic development incentives and agencies to contact, cautions in the global marketplace, transparency in emerging markets, government involvement and ethical standards, labor strategy, determining availability, quality and training opportunities, and infrastructure capacity.
This course teaches fundamentals of commercial real estate finance plus demonstrates the use of the Hewlett Packard financial calculator. Attendees will learn to input even cash flows for NPV and IRR calculations, as well as the more challenging uneven cash flow. A 50-page step-by-step reference guide is given to each attendee. This two-hour session will cover practical aspects of integrated marketing including breakthrough internet marketing, digital media, internet listing services, email marketing, and online advertising. The importance of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) will also be discussed. Other topics in this two-hour course include market research, analytical tools, importance of team collaboration, and next generation website practices and interactive tools. This is a must attend class for those trying to market properties and or company services.

The team at Warner Norcross & Judd returns to Synergy with another dynamic, interactive class. WNJ will utilize the recent hit series, “Deal or No Deal” to walk contestants (seminar participants) through major issues relating to Commercial Real Estate Purchase Agreements. With the help of recent Michigan Case Law, The panelists will outline the benefits and pitfalls of the process, while engaging attendees, participants and the audience alike, in a lively debate over whether or not to accept specific deals. This program will furnish practical tips for brokers or other real estate professionals to utilize in all areas of the commercial negotiation process.
This one-hour course will define sustainability, highlight “The business case” for and against Green Buildings, discuss value propositions, introduce LEED for commercial interiors, and review case studies.
Jon Savoy has created a comprehensive sales and customer-management system that helps others achieve the same kind of success in their careers as he has in his. Planning for Success will include personal and current business assessment tips as it applies to the attendee, how to set up a client communication plan, how to define challenges and opportunities, as well as defining business development goals.
This class will define the laws governing environmental due diligence and environmental liability protection. Due Diligence tools will also be highlighted. Brownfield properties, MEDQ clean-up criteria, and other environmental issues affecting commercial real estate, such as radon and asbestos, will also be discussed.

This class will discuss the changes to the Brownfield Redevelopment Program, proposed changes to the MEGA jobs creation tax credits as well as other changes to economic development tools including anchor credits, renaissance zones, and property taxes.
